Mount Lebanon Baptist Church
Senior Pastor : Rev. Bobby Bowser
In the year, 1906, Reverend Elijah Hicks cultivated the idea of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. From a horse-pulled wagon, he proclaimed God’s Word; Music rang out from a committed musician. Hymns flowed from the mouths and hearts of worshipping folk who had gathered to make a congregation of believers. They believed that the Lord could and would make a way. By faith, those folk went from Smith Street to Windsor Avenue; to Campostella Road. Through many dangers, toils, and snares; building, connecting, rebuilding and paying off debts. “The people had a mind to work”. Mount Lebanon kept moving-on through history.
New Calvary Baptist Church
Senior Pastor: Dr. Rev. W. Marcus Small
New Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, Virginia, has its beginnings in the early founding of Second Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk. On May 16, 1934, a special meeting of the new congregation was called, and New Calvary Baptist Church was founded. Under the leadership of these pastors, New Calvary has faithfully served the congregation
and surrounding communities with innovative ministries and programs for their spiritual, social, economic, and educational development. New Calvary, a beacon of social justice, has hosted many great civil rights leaders, including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, to speak at the church during the 1960s. Under Pastor Small’s leadership, New Calvary continues to develop ministries that speak to the needs of the congregation and community, including faith leadership development workshops and the formation of the New Calvary Community Development Corporation (NCCDC). The NCCDC focuses on addressing issues related to assisting low-income residents, ex-offenders, elders, and physically challenged individuals with affordable housing, supportive services, and job opportunities while contributing to the community's revitalization

Together we are a community of believers. What does that mean, the word community? We believe that together in fellowship we grow closer to God and one another. The bible speaks about iron sharpening iron. We believe that together we grow stronger. We are a community of believers. We strive to be a church without walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. Most churches find it is comfortable to stay within the walls, but we make it an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see our city changed. We highly value our relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship, and ultimately growing closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.

While these meetings were being held at Lamberts Point, the programs they had involved offering meals, cultural and educational programs, outings, workshops, groceries, clothing, and more to 80-100 seniors on a weekly basis. One reason why Seniors Aging Gracefully was formed was because seniors were targeted in the community. Many have experience being misunderstood, taken for granted, negativity, mistreatment from family, health and wellness, and the list goes on. During the pandemic, the support system made from Seniors Aging Gracefully lead to calls coming from these seniors weekly requesting for them to return to in person meetings. By May 2022, the had the returning meeting with Gethsemane Baptist Church with 90% of the former participants returning the first day. The programed continued with at least 50 participants being present monthly.
New Hope Baptist Church
Senior Pastor: Pastor Sammie L. Logan, III
In the early 1900s, most African-Americans living in the St. Julien's Creek section of what was then called Norfolk County, would walk many miles to worship with the brothers and sisters of either Divine Baptist Church in the Deep Creek area of the county or Zion Baptist Church in the neighboring city of Portsmouth. It was in 1919 that this charter was granted and the New Hope Baptist Church of St. Julien's Creek officially began. Our mission, quite simply, is to reach as many people as possible with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to teach each individual what it means of be one of His disciples. Our vision is to be a Christian community that loves, lifts, and leads diverse people to experience the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.
